Sit down, dear. Everything you do, in the order you do it.
Grandma has one rule for guests: sit down, take a cookie, read this page. It is short. She checked.
The whole thing in five steps
- Sign up on the home page and join the Slack. You need to be 13 to 18 (under 19).
- Set up Hackatime, so your hours count. Here is how.
- Talk to Grandma. Tell her what you want to build. She answers with 1 to 3 demands: rules for how you build it, never for what.
- Build it. On your own, one project in the works at a time, for as long as it takes. Half an hour or ten days, nobody is timing you.
- Submit it. Read the checklist first. The moment you hand a project in you may start the next one: it does not wait for the reviewers. When a reviewer looks, you earn cookies for your hours, and Grandma tells you each result herself the next time you visit.
Then you spend the cookies in the Pantry. How that works.
Two things Grandma will not forgive
- Starting before you talked to her. The project has to be made after she gave you demands. No old projects, no "I already had this one". See the rules.
- Fibbing about AI. It must be under 30% of your total time, and you say so when you submit. See submitting.
Tip
You always pick the project. Grandma only picks how. A website, an app or a game: all fine. Just remember it is a software-only program, dear, and hardware is not allowed.
Lost already?
The FAQ has the short answers. If you are still stuck, ask in #grandma-help, or come and chat in #grandma. Somebody there is probably less grumpy than Grandma.
