Help Grandma Out

Payouts

2 min read

How hours become cookies, and why Grandma's mood matters.

You do not get paid in money, dear. You get paid in cookies.

Cookies

You earn cookies for the hours you built and shipped. The Pantry sells things for cookies, and every price there shows what the grant is worth. The shop explains the rest.

Hours are not paid word for word

Warning

A reviewer may reduce your hours if they look inflated. Grandma can only prove what she can verify, and Hackatime is not proof of work. Count honest hours and you have nothing to worry about. After Grandma has handed over a result, you see how much Hackatime tracked and how many hours the reviewer approved, and so does everyone who opens your project page; if the reviewer approves less, the note says why.

Grandma's approval meter

Not every hour is worth the same. Each hour is multiplied by how much Grandma approves of your project:

  • More demands and spicier demands raise it.
  • Grandma loved it: a really cool, well made project raises it.
  • Huge project: a project of 20 hours or more raises it.
  • A Blue Ribbon raises it a little more, and holding one keeps that bonus on every later project. All about the ribbon.

Pick no demand and Grandma is furious, which is why every project has at least one. See the cookie formula for the exact sum behind the multiplier.

Try it

Pick some demands, slide the hours, and watch her face. The face is a mood meter and nothing else, the number is what counts.

Grandma scowling with her arms crossed in a big X

Pick a demand, dear. I'm waiting.0cookies

Note

Example numbers only. Final cookie amounts are set at launch.

When you get paid

After a reviewer checks your project and your hours. Then Grandma hands the cookies over herself, the next time you visit. Projects are reviewed in the order they are handed in, and there is no fixed date.
